What a Nakshatra actually is

The sky that the Moon travels through is divided, in Vedic astrology, into twenty-seven segments called Nakshatras. Each one covers a small, precise slice of the zodiac, a little over thirteen degrees. Your birth Nakshatra, your Janma Nakshatra, is simply the one the Moon was passing through at the moment you were born.

Notice how much finer this is than a Rashi. The twelve Rashis divide the same sky into twelve; the Nakshatras divide it into twenty-seven.
